According to The Mirror, Liverpool and Everton are both keen on signing RB Leipzig star Naby Keita – with the Reds potentially having the upper hand.

Keita, 22, left his native Guinea in 2013 in order to join French club Istres, and after just 23 appearances and four goals for the club, he was snapped up by Red Bull Salzbug in 2014.

The diminutive midfielder smashed 17 goals in 59 games for the Austrian outfit, and whilst clubs around Europe registered an interest in signing him, he joined Red Bull Salzburg’s sister club RB Leipzig last summer.

The heartbeat of a Leipzig side that have challenged at the top of the Bundesliga table in their first season in the top flight, Keita has racked up four goals and six assists in just 20 Bundesliga appearances – and his exploits appear to have triggered English interest.

The Mirror report that Liverpool are lining him up for a summer move to Anfield, but they face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Everton.

It’s claimed that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to strengthen his side in the summer and is ready to head back to his native Germany to land Keita, though he faces competition.

The report states that Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are all keen on Keita, whose diminutive stature and endless running have earned comparisons to N’Golo Kante – though he is better going forward than the Chelsea star.

Everton already have one player compared to Kante in Idrissa Gueye, meaning adding Keita would be something of a surprise, whilst Liverpool may believed that they have an upper hand in the race for the Guinean’s signature.

Keita allegedly shares an agent with Liverpool star Sadio Mane, who also used to play for Red Bull Salzburg, and that connection could help Klopp land his man and boost a Liverpool side that has fallen by the wayside in 2017.
