According to The Guardian, Lucien Favre has decided not to become the new Crystal Palace job – and Everton may miss out too.
Palace’s managerial hunt has seen them miss out on Nuno, and they then made former Nice and Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre their top target.
The Swiss boss would have been a major coup for the Eagles, and has been hailed by the likes of Mario Balotelli and Marco Reus, but it seems that their hopes of an ambitious deal are dwindling.
Palace miss out on Favre
The report notes that Favre had held ‘productive’ talks with Palace for more than a week, and was supposed to sign his contract on Thursday.
Palace even applied for work permits for Favre and his key coaches, suggesting that the deal was very close to being done – but now, it’s off.
Favre allegedly doesn’t want to return to football just yet, and wants a longer break from the game before coming back. Palace would have surely loved to have known this a week ago, rather than get so far down the line with him, with the U-turn a major shock.

Everton unlikely to land Favre either
The report notes that Everton had expressed an interest in appointing Favre this week as they look to find a manager themselves.
The Toffees lost Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid earlier this month, and were looking towards Favre as a possible replacement.
Yet with Favre not coming back to management yet, this seems to only strengthen Rafael Benitez’s position as favourite for the Everton job.
