Reports in France claim Everton have agreed to sell Idrissa Gueye.
According to French newspaper Le Parisien, Everton have agreed to sell midfielder Idrissa Gueye to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of €32million (£29million).
The Toffees have been fending off PSG’s interest in Gueye for some time, and managed to keep hold of the midfielder in January.
Now though, PSG are back, and have now offered a major deal worth almost £30million, which Everton have allegedly accepted.
Gueye is now set to complete his return to French football, four years since leaving Lille for Aston Villa, and he’ll jump into Champions League action with PSG once his move is completed.
On the one hand, this is a major profit for Everton. They paid just £7.1million to sign Gueye in 2016 (Guardian), and will now rack in a profit of more than £20million.
Gueye is 30 in September, and it’s reasonable to suggest that his value won’t get any higher than this, so Everton may be selling at the right price.
The Senegal international is a key part of the Everton side though, and is up with N’Golo Kante as one of the most defensively efficient midfielders in the Premier League.
Boss Marco Silva called Gueye ‘really important’ back in October (Liverpool Echo), so he may well be gutted by the move, breaking up his partnership with Andre Gomes.
Silva and Marcel Brands will now need to find a replacement, unless new signing Fabian Delph has been brought in to play in Gueye’s role in midfield.
