A potential takeover of Nottingham Forest is in doubt, according to The Times, with would-be buyer Evangelos Marinakis unhappy with the sale of Oliver Burke.

The paper report Marinakis was unimpressed by Forest selling Burke to Red Bull Leipzig at the weekend, just 24 hours after the winger led the team to a 3-1 win over Leeds.

Marinakis is claimed to have questioned Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi over the transfer, concerned that the club’s chances of winning promotion have been harmed.

The paper write that the Greek businessman was hoping to complete his takeover of Forest within weeks, but the Burke sale has created further doubt over his willingness to push ahead.

Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi has attracted plenty of ire after his controversial decision to sell Burke, even at a price of £13 million.

He told the Nottingham Post the money will be reinvested in players, but time is running out, with the transfer deadline set to pass at 11pm on Wednesday.

Forest are currently seventh in the Championship with three wins from five games.
