The Greek businessman was heavily linked with a bid for Nottingham Forest over the summer.

A report in the Daily Mail has claimed that Evangelos Marinakis is still interested in completing a takeover of Nottingham Forest despite one of the most recent updates suggesting that he was less convinced.

The Mirror reported back in May that current Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi had agreed a deal to sell the Championship side to a Greek consortium that was being led by the current President of Olympiakos.

However, The Times reported at the end of August that Oliver Burke’s £13m move from the City Ground to RB Leipzig during the summer window had left the businessman’s takeover in some doubt as he felt the club’s promotion hopes had been severely dented following the winger’s departure.

But while the apparent lack of movement in the weeks following The Times’ report would suggest that Burke’s sale did have an impact on Marinakis’ desire to buy the club – especially as the report stated that he was initially hoping to conclude a deal within a few weeks – the Daily Mail has now suggested that he is still interested.

Given Nottingham Forest’s current position in the table – they sit 18th having won just three of their first 11 games – it seems likely that the team’s supporters will be desperately hoping that there is a change in the boardroom.

Marinakis’ reported concerns about their promotion hopes following Burke’s sale appear to have been justified. Philippe Montanier’s men have not won since the Scotland international inspired them to a 3-1 win over Leeds.

But Forest fans will be hoping that Marinakis ultimately decides that he can restore the side to the level they once were, as a change of ownership may just be what the team needs to get their campaign, and potential promotion bid, back on track.
