Benfica have rejected a £25 million bid from the Premier League for Goncalo Ramos with Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton Wanderers side big fans of the highly-rated striker, as reported by Record.

As it stands, there is no confirmation that the bid in question came from Molineux.

But, given that Lage worked with Ramos during their time together at Benfica – not to mention the fact that Wolves are the only Premier League club to have been linked so far – it is not too much of a stretch to suggest that the men in gold-and-black are behind the mystery bid for one of Portugal’s top talents.

Convincing Benfica to cash in on the Algarve-born 20-year-old will be easier said than done, however.

Will Wolves snatch Goncalo Ramos from Benfica?

Eagles coach Jorge Jesus has made it clear that he is desperate to keep Ramos in Lisbon, seeing the academy graduate as a key part of his plans at a club who finished nine points adrift of city rivals Sporting in the Primeira Liga table last season.

And what Jesus wants, Jesus very often gets.

Benfica backed their manager with a £70 million splurge last summer and, despite a miserable 2020/21 campaign, the veteran tactician still has plenty of credit in the bank.

It was Jesus who turned Benfica into the dominant force of Portuguese football between 2009 and 2015, after all, winning ten trophies along the way.

What’s more, Ramos has emerged as the club’s most in-form player during pre-season, scoring the only goal of the game against French champions Lille on Thursday.

Ramos’s record in senior football is remarkable too, finding the net four times in five top-flight games thus far.

While fellow youngster Fabio Silva and the returning Raul Jimenez are expected to play regularly under Bruno Lage at Wolves, question marks still hang over the heads of Patrick Cutrone and Rafa Mir.

Two strikers who spent time away from Molineux last term could now depart on permanent deals, potentially paving the way for Ramos’s arrival.
