Andre Wisdom won the title with Red Bull Salzburg last season and they want to keep him – but Derby County want the Liverpool defender back.

At the age of 24, it appears that the ship has sailed for Andre Wisdom at Liverpool. With four different loan spells under his belt since the beginning of 2013/14, it’s time for the Leeds-born defender to put an end to his nomadic existence and settle down for good.

When, or where, he will do so, his anyone’s guess.

According to the Derby Telegraph, Derby County could hand Wisdom the opportunity to start afresh this summer. Liverpool would be willing to sell for £4 million and the versatile defender, who helped The Rams to the play-off final during a loan spell in 2013/14, has clearly caught the eye of manager Gary Rowett.

However, the report adds that the promotion-chasing Championship outfit will face competition from Red Bull Salzburg after the defender’s loan spell last season at the Austrian club.

In fact, Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund stated that the club ‘will try everything’ to keep Wisdom after the defender helped them lift the Austrian league title last season, the Derby Telegraph adds.

Therefore, Derby face a tough task luring Wisdom back to the East Midlands. However, if he wants to make a name for himself in England, perhaps returning to the club where he enjoyed the best season of a stuttering career would be a masterstroke.

After all, Wisdom has a keen admirer in Derby boss Gary Rowett.

“He is athletic, strong and has potential to play in the Premier League – so he is the type of player we are interested in,” Rowett told the Derby Telegraph last month.

Therefore, Wisdom should be enticed by the prospect of kick-starting his career at Pride Park.
