According to Il Tempo (via Giallorossi.net), Roma boss Paulo Fonseca is still chasing Everton’s Bernard, having failed to sign him back in the summer.

Fonseca worked alongside the Brazil international at Shakhtar Donetsk and was keen on a reunion with the forward, only for Carlo Ancelotti to intervene when reassuring Bernard of his role according to the Liverpool Echo.

Il Tempo’s report states that the Serie A outfit – who are competing in the Europa League this season – want attacking reinforcements after loaning out Cengiz Ünder and Justin Kluivert to Leicester and RB Leipzig respectively.

Bernard only started his first Premier League game of the season last time out against Manchester United, where he scored the opener.

It was one of just three Premier League appearances so far this term for the attacker, who is Everton’s joint-highest earner alongside Yerry Mina.

The pair each earn £120,000-a-week at Goodison Park, according to Spotrac.

In that respect, you could argue that Ancelotti’s reassurances to Bernard from back in the summer have proven to have made little difference to his playing time.

The 28-year-old only started 15 of Everton’s 38 Premier League games last season – he is far from being the first name on the ex-Chelsea boss’ teamsheet.
