Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela is one of the leading candidates to replace Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne, as reported by Corriere dello Sport.

How on earth do you replace such a legendary figure, a man who has defined an era at a club that boasts one of the most passionate and expectant fanbases in European football?
Insigne’s influence may not have spanned almost three decades at Stadio San Paolo, like Mark Noble. But, after almost 400 games, more than 100 goals and 11 years of loyal service, the pocket-rocket winger will leave a massive void in Napoli’s team if, as expected, he bids an emotional farewell in the summer transfer window.
Insigne is out of contract in 2022.
And with talks over a costly extension yet to get under way, Calciomercato reports the 40-cap Italy international – the heart and soul of this Napoli side – could be on his way to England or Spain.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the 29-year-old Tottenham benchwarmer is the leading candidate to take Insigne’s place on the left of Napoli’s attack. Rodrigo De Paul, of Udinese, and Hellas Verona schemer Mattia Zaccagni are also in contention.
Like Insigne, £80,000-a-week Lamela is expected to leave with one year left on his contract.
A return to Italy feels the most likely outcome for the one-time Roma star, with Bologna already confirming their interest.
But while the rabona-loving, high-stepping winger isn’t short of talent, there’s no comparison between Lamela and Insigne when it comes to end product.
Insigne has scored 19 goals this season – more than Lamela has mustered in the past three years combined.
