Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko will leave for FC Midtjylland in the January transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported that Sviatchenko will join Midtjylland on loan from Celtic for the rest of the season.

Scott Brown, Erik Sviatchenko and Stuart Armstrong of Celtic celebrate during the Betfred Cup Final between Aberdeen and Celtic at Hampden Park on November 27, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to report, the Danish club have called for a press conference on Tuesday morning where they will likely unveil the 26-year-old central defender.

Sviatchenko has been on the books of Celtic since January 2016 when he joined from Midtjylland for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £1.5m when Ronny Deila was in charge.

Much was expected of the Denmark international when he arrived at Celtic Park, but the centre-back has struggled to make an impact for the Hoops.

Celtic recently signed defender Marvin Compper, and this will have further affected Sviatchenko’s chances of playing regular first-team football during the second half of the 2017-18 campaign.

The Glasgow giants are going strong in the Scottish Premiership and are set to win the league title yet again this season.
