Erik Lamela’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is in doubt due to disagreement over his current injury problem, according to The Times.

It has been reported that Lamela, who has not featured in a competitive game since the EFL Cup defeat by Liverpool back in October, has told friends that he will not feature again this season, but Spurs believe that it is immature to make such a prognosis.

“The Times has learnt that there has been a disagreement between Lamela and the club over whether he requires surgery, leaving the 25-year-old in limbo as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his contract,” adds the report in The Times.

“Talks are scheduled to take place in the summer but Lamela is unlikely to secure the £120,000 weekly wages that he was hoping for,” adds the report.

“The club’s reluctance to start talks with Lamela indicates that they may listen to offers for a player they paid £25 million for in 2013.”

It seems that Tottenham are still hopeful of Lamela making a return to the pitch before the end of the season.

The problem is that the Argentina international, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, does not think so.

Spurs have done well without the 25-year-old and could end up as high as second in the Premier League this season.

Lamela has progressed during his time at Tottenham, but has he done enough to earn £120,000 per week? Probably not.

Moreover, Tottenham have shown this season that they can succeed without the former AS Roma star, and one should not be surprised if club chairman Daniel Levy does not offer the salary that he reportedly wants.
