According to The Athletic, West Ham United central defender Issa Diop is on the radar of Liverpool.

It has been reported that sources close to Diop have claimed that Liverpool have enquired about the 24-year-old central defender.

West Ham are unlikely to let the Frenchman leave on loan unless there is an obligation to buy, with the defender likely to cost over £20 million, according to the report.

Good move for Issa Diop?

When Diop joined West Ham from Toulouse in the summer of 2018, he told the club’s official website that he is “a very ambitious player”.

West Ham’s then Director of Football Mario Husillos said that the defender has “fantastic potential”.

The 24-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Hammers, and has made three starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League so far this season, according to WhoScored.

A move to Liverpool would be brilliant for Diop in the short term, as he would get the chance to play due to the injury problems that the defending Premier League champions have at the moment.

However, when Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are back from injury, the centre-back could become a squad player at the Reds.
