Three Championship sides are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United talent Jamie Shackleton on loan, with Jesse Marsch keen to offload the 22-year-old this summer.

According to the Athletic, a trio of second-tier English clubs have registered an interest in the versatile Leeds academy graduate, with Shackleton set to leave his boyhood side this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by Marsch, with a loan departure the most likely outcome.

Shackleton broke through at Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa and was a regular in both the Championship and Premier League for the Argentine manager. However, the former England youth international featured just once for Marsch following the American’s arrival at Elland Road.

With Leeds experiencing massive changes this summer already with Kalvin Phillips leaving for Manchester City and Raphinha set to follow the England international out the exit door, Shackleton now looks to be another big name at the club who could leave, with a loan to the Championship now on the table.

Branded as ‘phenomenal’ by former Leeds star Jermaine Beckford, there’s clear talent and potential in Shackleton, who impressed greatly for the Whites in the Championship and in some Premier League matches under Bielsa, though it is clear with this update that an exit is needed for the 22-year-old, and a loan move to the Championship could be perfect.

Championship loan could restart Shackleton’s future Leeds career

Things are looking bleak for Shackleton’s hopes of playing for Leeds, though football is a fast-moving sport, and the midfielder can easily change his fortunes around in the next 12 months if he heads out on loan for next season and impresses in the Championship.

Indeed, we have seen many cases across the Premier League of out of favour players winning their spots back after heading out on loan, and for Shackleton, the Elland Road prospect can do the same next season if he heads out to the Championship and catches Marsch’s eye.
