The ambitious English owner of fourth division side Monza Brianza 1912 has reportedly failed in a bid to land ex-Inter man Andrea Stramaccioni.
Anglo-Brazilian entrepreneur Anthony Armstrong Emery has vowed to turn Monza into a club capable of developing some of the best talent in Italy.
Emery is attempting to create a side that functions like Udinese and nurtures young talent before selling it on at a big profit and starting fresh.
Monza are currently in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione, but they sit fourth and will be part of the unified Lega Pro next season, which will be Italy’s third division after a re-strcucture of the lower league system.
In spite of that promotion, reports that Armstrong Emery attempted to snap up Andrea Stramaccioni, who has been unemployed since coaching Inter for the 2012-13 season, have raised eyebrows.
Monza have never been in Serie A despite playing 38 seasons in Serie B – as such they are the team to have played the most second tier campaigns without reaching Italy’s top table.
But Stramaccioni has reportedly turned down the opportunity to take the helm at Monza and it is suspected that he is waiting for a Serie A bench to open up.
