Report: English clubs have eyes on Aaron Hickey after reported Rangers interest

The Ibrox side are said to be keen on the youngster but English Premier League clubs are now on the scene.

Arsenal, Southampton, Newcastle United and others were all in attendance to scout Rangers’ Sunday Scottish Premiership clash against Hearts, according to The Scottish Sun.

The paper say that most of the clubs were in the stands at Tynecastle to scout and check on the progress of Aaron Hickey, who started the match in Craig Levein’s team.

It comes after reports earlier this month that new Ibrox Sporting Director Ross Wilson, formerly of one of the clubs in attendance, was set to recommend Hickey as a potential £2m Rangers signing.

Manchester City are also in the hunt for the 17-year-old, who has burst onto the scene at Hearts over the last six months.

He made his senior debut for the club back in May and has gone to make 16 appearances in all competitions, including the Scottish Cup Final last season.

The teenager has already made quite the impression with Hearts fans after scoring a dramatic late derby winner against Hibernian back in September.

Levein has tried to brush off the speculation in recent weeks, telling reporters that he was focused on tying down the player to a new long-term contract, which expires at the end of next season (The Daily Record).

With so many clubs apparently showing interest though, it might be inevitable that he leaves Hearts sooner rather than later.
