According to The Northern Echo, Middlesbrough will not sign Tottenham’s Danny Rose before Friday’s 5pm deadline as they simply can’t afford to.
The report states that Neil Warnock’s side are hoping to do some business before the domestic transfer window ends, and have held talks with Chelsea over the signing of Baba Rahman.
However, they won’t be signing Rose as Boro are not keen to break the bank to land the full-back, whose £60k-a-week salary (via Spotrac) is more than any player at the Riverside Stadium currently earns.
Boro have worked hard to keep costs down during the pandemic according to the report, and don’t want to splash out.
The Northern Echo also say that Jose Mourinho has informed the England international that he does not have a future at the club.
Rose is yet to play for Tottenham this season, and has been pushed even further down the pecking order following the arrival of Sergio Reguilon.

His last appearance for the north Londoners came in a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on January 11th.
He then joined Newcastle on loan.

If Rose doesn’t manage to find a club before Friday’s 5pm deadline, then it seems as if he’ll spend another handful of months in the shadows under Mourinho.
It is sad to see the 30-year-old’s Tottenham career come down to this, having enjoyed a number of seasons with Spurs while also playing a big part in the club’s run to their first ever Champions League final.
