According to 90min, Manchester United are keen for Newcastle to take Phil Jones on loan, who Steve Bruce is said to be a fan of.

The report states that Jones is towards the top of a list of players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to offload.

90min add that Newcastle are weighing up which Manchester United player to take on loan, as Jesse Lingard and Brandon Williams are also available.

It is said that the Magpies are considering paying a portion of Jones’ salary to bring the England international to St James’ Park.

However, Bruce is hesitant to shake hands over the deal yet, as he wants to weigh up what Lingard or Williams could offer his side.

The Newcastle boss has a great relationship with Manchester United due to his successes as a player at Old Trafford.

There is, according to 90min, real optimism that both Newcastle and the Red Devils will do business together at some point this month.

According to Spotrac, Jones earns a significant £75,000-a-week, which is quite a big salary for a player who’s unavailable as much as he is.

Back in August, the Mirror made the claim that Jones has missed over 200 games for Manchester United since signing from Blackburn for £16 million in 2011.

That should be extremely concerning for any club interested in taking him on board – it would certainly concern us if we were Bruce.
