According to Roma Live, Aston Villa are now resigned to losing Douglas Luiz this summer, who is said to be wanted by Arsenal and Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, it was the Daily Mail who claimed that Arsenal and Tottenham wanted to sign the £15m Premier League maestro in January.

The 23-year-old’s contract expires in June 2023, and there has been no progress made on an extension of his deal.

Now, Roma Live believe the Villans have accepted they’re going to lose the Brazilian, who they must sell this year or risk losing for nothing in 2023.

José Mourinho’s side are also interested in the former Manchester City midfielder, who was the subject of three bids in January according to the Daily Mail.

So far this season, Luiz has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa, recording three assists in those outings.

Arsenal and Tottenham must act

If Aston Villa really have given up hope of keeping their No.6, then Arsenal and Tottenham must act now.

Luiz is a fantastic midfielder, who is nowhere near his best level yet at the age of just 23.

Despite his youthfulness, the South American playmaker has still amassed 88 Premier League appearances and five caps for Brazil, as well as a gold medal at the Olympics.

Luiz could easily develop into one of the best midfielders in England, and he may never be as cheap as he is right now given his contract situation.

Both Mikel Arteta and Antonio Conte are struggling with a lack of midfield options, so the Gunners and Spurs definitely need Luiz in their ranks.

Keep an eye on this saga, as an interesting transfer battle could soon commence in north London.
