Emilio Izaguirre is set to bring an end to seven trophy laden years at Celtic as he agrees a £1.25 million move to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Fayha, as reported by the Daily Record.
The future of the 30-year-old Honduran had been up in the air for some time after the emergence of Kieran Tierney relegated him to the club’s second choice left-back. However, Izaguirre appeared certain to stay in Glasgow when he inked a one-year contract extension recently before professing a desire to wear the green and white for another three seasons.
Yet, it appears that has all changed with Izaguirre, who won six consecutive Scottish Premiership titles, has accepted a lucrative offer from Al-Fayha.
The Middle Eastern outfit won promotion to the Saudi top flight this year after winning the second division. And the full-back is expected to earn a comparatively huge pay packet in The Gulf.
What this means for Celtic, however, remains to be seen. The Scottish champions have been linked with a number of left-backs in recent months and the sudden nature of Izaguirre’s impending exit means that manager Brendan Rodgers will surely be forced into the market to find a back-up for first-choice Tierney.
Celtic were linked with a move for Joe Bryan, the Bristol City left-sider, by The Mirror recently. However, the Bristol Post reports that he would cost a huge fee, potentially putting him out of their reach.
