According to The Mirror, Arsenal boss Unai Emery wants to sign midfielder Ever Banega this summer – but his age means the club may not be so keen.

The Gunners have enjoyed a decent first season under Emery, but will need to work smartly in the transfer market this summer as they carefully manage their finances.

With Aaron Ramsey on his way to Juventus, another midfielder will be wanted, and a host of players have already been linked with moves to North London.

Now, The Mirror claim that Emery ‘loves’ Sevilla ace Banega, with the Argentinian one of Emery’s favourite players having played a key role under him at Sevilla.

However, Banega is 31 this summer, and it’s noted that whilst Emery wants Banega, he may not get through the club’s recruitment process because of his age.

Banega’s age allegedly may ‘count against him’ as Arsenal weigh up midfield targets, and that may leave the club to look for alternatives in the market.

Younger options such as Christopher Nkunku or Joan Jordan may be better fits for Arsenal, unless Emery can convince the club that Banega is worth signing despite him having no resale value.
