According to SPORT, Real Madrid are already considering activating Sergio Reguilon’s buyback clause, due to issues with Marcelo and Ferland Mendy.

The Spanish giants only parted ways with the left-back in the summer.

However, Zinedine Zidane is already considering a move to reverse that decision by triggering Real Madrid’s buyback option.

Doing so would see Los Blancos hand €45 million (£40 million) to Tottenham, as per the agreement between the two clubs.

If Zidane did actually do this, then it could infuriate José Mourinho.

Why? Well, the ex-Chelsea boss surely wouldn’t want to lose Reguilon so soon after adding him to his squad, if not at all.

The 24-year-old has already become a key player in north London, amassing an impressive five assists in 20 appearances from left-back

Mourinho surely knew this day might be coming when the buyback agreement was implemented.

However, he will perhaps be left fuming at the indecisiveness from Real Madrid, who have only been without the defender for four months – Reguilon arrived at Spurs in September.

It would effectively make Reguilon’s time in England a glorified loan move, with plenty more complicated technicalities involved.

Real Madrid re-signing the Spain international would surely cause disruption to Mourinho’s transfer plans.

Given Reguilon’s fine form, he presumably doesn’t have a left-back on his shopping list, although he’ll definitely need to add one on there if the Spaniard leaves.
