According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson has been called up for first-team training.
It’s claimed that Magpies boss Steve Bruce is taking a closer look at Anderson, having made it clear that he wants more academy graduates coming through.
The report notes that Anderson was first promoted to first-team training ahead off the League Cup win at Newport County in September, and has remained around the first team since.
Bruce wants Anderson to learn from Newcastle’s senior players, and that’s why he is now working away from the Magpies’ Under-23’s.
Anderson, 17, was born in North Shields but represents Scotland internationally, and has scored once in two Premier League 2 games this season.
Primarily a central midfielder, Anderson adds depth to the Newcastle side, especially with Jonjo Shelvey out of action right now.

Sean Longstaff and Matty Longstaff have both risen up through the ranks and are first-team players at Newcastle, and Anderson will now look to follow suit.
Being around first-team training at such a young age is a huge step in the right direction, and a senior debut may be in the offing this season.
