What a week it has been for Liverpool supporters.
First, the Reds’ fanbase were treated to rumours from TMW that they could be signing Paulo Dybala on a free transfer this summer.
On Thursday, HITC Sport wrote that Michael Edwards could win 2022 for Liverpool if that transfer were to materialise.
However, this is Edwards’s last transfer window as the director of football at Anfield – and his successor is reportedly working on the latest exciting gossip coming out of Kirkby.
Speculation is rife that Liverpool are signing Luis Diaz of Porto.
It was reported on Thursday that the £50 million-rated winger wanted to join the Anfield outfit this summer and had snubbed a January switch to Tottenham because of it.
But ESPN are reporting that Jurgen Klopp will be getting the Colombia international this month instead, with £37 million of his release clause being paid upfront and the other £12.5 million in add-ons.
The report adds that Julian Ward, Edwards’s successor on Merseyside, is undertaking the ‘preparatory work’ to ensure that the signing happens before Monday’s deadline, with Liverpool sending a team to South America today to accelerate things.
Fekir a cautionary tale
With the Nabil Fekir saga still relatively fresh in the supporters’ minds, nobody will be getting overly excited about Diaz until the announcement comes directly from the Premier League club.
However, it would seem as if there’s a very good chance of this materialising.
With 16 goals and six assists across all competitions for Porto this season, Diaz has a lot to offer Liverpool in an attacking sense and with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both turning 30 this year, this could be their long-term replacement for one of them.
