According to CBS Sports, Edu Gaspar would be open to selling Lucas Torreira, who is currently away from Arsenal on loan at Atletico Madrid.

CBS write that, while the Uruguay international is struggling in La Liga, the Spanish outfit have no plans to send him back to north London.

However, it seems like Edu – Arsenal’s Technical Director – is more assured with his plans for the ex-Sampdoria man.

Torreira – who Unai Emery signed for £26 million – has really seen his Gunners career slip downhill.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in north London, making a whopping 50 appearances in all competitions.

He also netted in the north London derby.

However, since Mikel Arteta replaced Emery, Torreira has struggled to nail down a spot under the Spaniard.

Since being called ‘superb’ by Pep Guardiola’s former assistant in January, the Fray Bentos-born midfielder has fallen out of the picture.

Arsenal’s official website quote Arteta as saying: ‘In training he fights for every inch. He’s been superb. In the three games he’s played under me, he’s been top.’

Torreira was loaned to Diego Simeone in the hope that the Argentine could help his fellow South American rediscover his best form.

However, the out-on-loan, terrier-like Gunner has only made two starts in La Liga this season.

He also hasn’t started a single game in the Champions League.

Torreira still has time on his side to turn his Arsenal career around, in our view.

However, it seems like Edu’s stance on the Uruguayan is clear.
