According to The Athletic, Arsenal defender Rob Holding is seen as one of the club’s emerging leaders by Mikel Arteta and Edu.
It’s claimed that Holding is set for a new contract at Arsenal, rewarding him for his first-team performances this season.
Having come close to joining Newcastle United on loan last summer, this is quite the turnaround for Holding – and it seems he is held in very, very high regard.
The report notes that Arteta and Edu – the two biggest decision makers at Arsenal – see Holding as a potential leader at Arsenal, and an important player for years to come.
Holding, 25, has played 14 Premier League games so far this season, which is already his highest tally in a Gunners shirt.
It seems unlikely that he will ever earn England recognition, but he is clearly viewed as part of the furniture at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger paid just £2million to sign Holding from Bolton Wanderers in 2016, and whilst injuries have cursed him over the years, that looks like a very sound investment now.
Whether he is Gabriel’s long-term partner at centre back remains to be seen, but Arteta seemingly values his leadership highly as he looks to put his stamp on the Arsenal squad.
