Newcastle United could sell Allan Saint-Maximin even though head coach Eddie Howe would like to keep him, according to a report.

The Telegraph have reported that Newcastle United owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), could sell Allan Saint-Maximin if they receive an offer of £40 million.

However, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe reportedly would like to keep the winger, described as “really dangerous” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in The Mirror in August 2022.

The report states: “If they were also to receive an attractive bid around the £40 million mark for Allan Saint-Maximin, he could be sold, but manager Eddie Howe would like to keep him.

“It depends on the player’s state of mind to a large extent. If he is clear he wants to commit to another season on Tyneside, any thought of selling him will be ditched.”

What should Newcastle United do about Allan Saint-Maximin?

In our opinion, if Newcastle United get a decent offer for Allan Saint-Maximin, then they should just sell him in the summer transfer window.

While the French winger is a very good player and is full of tricks and flicks, he is not very consistent.

The 26-year-old is not at the top of his game week in and week out.

Newcastle will be aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League again next season and will also play in the UEFA Champions League.

The Magpies need players who will deliver on a consistent basis, and we have to say that Saint-Maximin does not do that.

The 26-year-old made 12 starts and 13 substitute appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle last season.

The winger scored one goal and gave five assists in those games.

Meanwhile, The Sun have reported that Newcastle will sell Karl Darlow if they get £5 million in transfer fees for him.

Leeds United and Bournemouth have been linked with the goalkeeper.
