According to a recent report by The Athletic, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe was not as keen as the club’s owners on shooting an Amazon Prime documentary that is currently being filmed at the club.

This documentary is expected to showcase some of the behind-the-scenes workings at the club and provide fans with a unique insight into the daily operations at St James’ Park.

This is a great chance for Newcastle’s new owners to get some good PR out there and show what their plan for the Magpies is in the long-term, but Howe isn’t a fan of the club’s inner workings being filmed.

This documentary is not the first time a Premier League club has had this kind of treatment. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have all had their own ‘All or Nothing’ documentaries in the past, and one could argue that they proved to be distractions at the time.

City did win the league title while theirs was being filmed, but Arsenal and Spurs both had disappointing seasons during the filming of their series.

Despite Howe’s reservations, it seems that the current Newcastle United owners, who are keen to engage with fans and build the club’s profile, see the documentary as a positive opportunity.

The club has undergone significant changes since being taken over by a Saudi-backed consortium in 2021, and the owners are keen to showcase their vision for the club and the work that is being done to improve in every area.

It’s understandable that Howe isn’t a fan. After all, football managers are always keen to be secretive about their tactics and style.

It is unclear when the documentary will be released, fans will no doubt be eagerly anticipating the chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at one of the biggest clubs in English football.
