The Telegraph that key Tottenham Hotspur duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen attempted to persuade Nacer Chadli to stay at the club in the summer.
Chadli signed for West Bromwich Albion in a £13m move, and has gone on to become a key player at the Hawthorns.

The report claims some of Chadli’s close friends were ‘bewildered’ by his decision to leave Tottenham, with his international teammates attempting unsuccessfully to get him to stick around.
Chadli was omitted from Belgium’s Euro 2016 squad after being used mainly as a substitute at the end of 2015/16, but has since earned a recall.

He had lost the faith of Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino, and told The Telegraph he simply wanted to get back to playing regularly again.
Chadli is 27 and approaching the peak years of his career, and thus is it understandable he was not keen to be a bit part player at Spurs, admitting he expected more of the same this season.
