Luke Dowling may get his wish as West Bromwich Albion are closing in on a deal to take Karlan Grant from Huddersfield Town, the Express and Star suggest.

Grant is said to be Dowling and Slaven Bilic’s first choice striker, and it seems that West Brom are finally close to making a breakthrough now.

The Baggies have been chasing the forward for much of the summer so far, but Huddersfield have proven difficult to negotiate with.

The Terriers have been keen to keep hold of their main goalscorer, but Albion are closing in on their man now, with the domestic transfer deadline drawing ever closer.

West Brom have been looking to add a new number nine throughout almost the entirety of the summer to date.

It is felt that Bilic isn’t totally satisfied with his current striking options, with the Baggies not really having a potent scorer at the top end of the pitch.

Grant could fill that void though, after hitting the back of the net prolifically in the lower leagues.

Grant netted 19 goals in the Championship last term, and the hope is that he could cause problems even in the top division.

The 23-year-old possess both pace and power, and he should be able to hold-up play while offering a scoring threat in the box.

West Brom have taken just one point from their opening four games since promotion, but the hope is that Grant’s arrival will make them far more dangerous in the coming weeks.
