According to Tuttomercatoweb, Napoli are pressing for ex-Arsenal striker Donyell Malen – and PSV Eindhoven could demand a staggering €60million (£53.5million).
It’s claimed that Napoli are desperate to add a striker, and have been assessing a number of potential signings for the summer.
Lille’s Victor Osimhen and Zenit St Petersburg hitman Sardar Azmoun are thought to be on the radar, but so is Malen.
The problem for Napoli is that PSV allegedly want £53.5million for Malen, which could be too rich for the Italian side. After all, the global pandemic will have hit their budget.
Malen, 21, has hit 17 goals and nine assists in 25 games this season. Capable of playing up front or out wide, Malen has become one of the top young attackers in Europe during his time with PSV.
This has to be galling for Arsenal. They sold Malen to PSV for just £500,000 in 2018, and were linked with a £50million move to re-sign him.
It now seems that Malen’s price tag has gone up again, which is notable given that many expected fees to go down in light of the global pandemic.
Seeing Malen move on for more than 10 times the fee Arsenal sold him for would be difficult to swallow, and bears resemblance to the Ismael Bennacer situation; Arsenal sold him for £900,000 in 2017, and he could now join Manchester City for £44.5million.
If Malen and Bennacer move for a combined £98million, just years after Arsenal brought in £1.4million for the pair, some Gunners fans will be understandably frustrated.
