According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur do hold a strong interest in Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek – but they don’t think they can afford him.

It’s stated that Spurs fancy signing Van de Beek, and his close friendship with fellow Dutchman Steven Bergwijn could play into Tottenham’s hands.

A similar boost is that Van de Beek has been interested in joining Tottenham in the past, and he is believed to be a big fan of boss Jose Mourinho.

That all looks great for Tottenham, but they would also need to sell players to make a move for Van de Beek, with no plans for a bid right now.

Tottenham additionally have no room for another foreign signing as things stand, so their position – both financially and registration-wise – seem to prohibit a move.

Van de Beek, 23, notched 10 goals and 11 assists last season, and he has shown his quality by playing as a deep midfielder, a box-to-box player and as a number 10.

The Dutchman would seemingly fancy joining Spurs in an ideal world, but the global pandemic and Tottenham’s other business mean he is more likely to head elsewhere.

Having brought in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg whilst also having the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko, another midfielder simply isn’t a priority for Spurs right now – and that may mean they miss out on Van de Beek entirely.
