West Brom have reportedly abandoned plans to target Manchester City’s Fabian Delph
A report in the Express and Star has suggested that West Brom are planning to move on from their interest in Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph due to the financial package that may be required to complete a deal.
The Express and Star reports that the Baggies had considered a move for the 27-year-old as they look at potential replacements for Darren Fletcher following his move to Premier League rivals Stoke City.
Delph reportedly earns £90,000 at the Etihad
However, the Hawthorns hierarchy have decided to put a move for Deplh on the back-burner with the Express and Star suggesting that wages are likely to be an issue.
The former Aston Villa man earns £90,000 a week at the Etihad Stadium, and while the Baggies could afford to match that – though it would make Delph the club’s highest earner – they are expecting to have to pay an even higher wage with the Express and Star reporting that television money is tempting agents to seek even better deals for their players.
Instead, the Express and Star reports that Tony Pulis’ men will concentrate their attention on signing a new striker, centre-back and left-back with talks for Leeds United’s Charlie Taylor continuing.

Although Delph would have probably been a good signing – and perhaps may still be depending on how events unfold over the coming months – it is perhaps a wise decision given his lack of game-time at City over recent seasons.
If he instantly became the club’s highest paid player after his struggles with the Citizens, the other key players within the squad could have suggested that they also deserve better terms, thus depleting the squad’s budget further.
