Tottenham are yet to reach a resolution with the goalkeeper over a new contract.
A report in the Daily Mirror has claimed that Tottenham are likely to wait until next summer to restart talks with Hugo Lloris over a new contract, while the report has also disclosed one of the details about the deal that his Spurs teammate is set to sign imminently.
The Mirror reports that the goalkeeper wants a significant pay rise on his current contract – which expires in 2019 – but with Daniel Levy unwilling to break his wage structure at White Hart Lane, it appears that further talks will not take place until the end of the season at the earliest.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris
But while some Tottenham fans may be concerned about the situation regarding their captain – especially as star striker Harry Kane is in a similar boat it seems – the Mirror suggests that there is some positive news set to come out of the club in the very near future.
The Mirror reports that Jan Vertonghen’s new deal with the Premier League side will be announced soon, and interestingly, the 29-year-old’s new deal will see him earn less than the £100,000 a week mark.
Jan Vertonghen
While the stalemates with Lloris and Kane may be worrying, the fact that Vertonghen is set to commit his future without signing a contract that will breach Levy’s structure is arguably a small victory for the club.
The defender’s new deal – in conjunction with the other key names that have put pen to paper in recent times – may help convince the two players that they can achieve all of their ambitions with Spurs, and thus, it may make them much more willing to reach a compromise.
