According to a report from the Express and Star, Tony Pulis feared for his job after West Brom’s defeat to Huddersfield and told his coaching staff that he was potentially expecting the sack.

Pulis appears to be coming under more and more pressure from the Baggies supporters in recent weeks. West Brom have not won a game since August, drawing four and losing five of their last nine Premier League fixtures.

And the criticism of the Welshman appeared to move up a level following their narrow defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium – as they failed to properly test Huddersfield who spent the last half-hour playing with 10 men after Christopher Schindler was dismissed.

The Express and Star reports that, following the defeat, Pulis was partially expecting to be dismissed and informed his coaching staff of his concern.

However, the Express and Star adds that the West Brom hierarchy currently have no plans to sack the 59-year-old despite the team’s poor results in recent weeks.

With the international break arguably the best time to make a managerial change once the season is up and running – a fact that both Everton and West Ham have looked to exploit – it is arguably surprising that Pulis does not seem to be facing more questions about his future from those above him.

West Brom’s form shows little sign of improving, and they are currently edging towards the bottom three ahead of the pivotal Christmas period and January transfer window.

And with Chelsea and Tottenham ahead in their next two games following the break, it appears that Pulis faces an uphill battle trying to alleviate some of the pressure coming from the fans before the end of the month.
