Ross Barkley is out of contract at Everton next summer, and is attracting attention from Tottenham Hotspur.
Ross Barkley’s advisors have told Everton that he will not be signing another deal
A report in the Daily Mirror has suggested that Ross Barkley’s advisors have told Everton that the attacking midfielder will not be signing the record deal that the Toffees had put in front of him.
Barkley appears to be heading for a crucial summer at Goodison Park with his contract set to expire at the end of next season, the Mirror reports.
Everton had offered Barkley the chance to become their highest paid player
The Mirror suggests that Everton have offered Barkley a contract worth £100,000 a week – the most lucrative in the club’s history – and issued an ultimatum that they will consider offers for him this summer if he turns the deal down, rather than allow his contract to expire.
But if the Toffees were hoping that the ultimatum would persuade Barkley to sign, it appears to have not worked with the Mirror suggesting that the England international’s advisors have informed the Merseyside outfit that he does not want to extend his stay with the club, leaving the path clear for the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United to try and swoop in.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman is ready to let Barkley leave
However, despite Barkley heading into the final year of his contract, Everton do not plan to let the attacking midfielder go cheaply having slapped a £50 million asking price on him, according to the Mirror.
Despite his talent, the fact that his contract has such a small amount of time left to run surely means that it would be a surprise to see such a bid come in. So perhaps, despite Barkley’s advisors informing Everton of his stance, this saga has still got some twists and turns ahead before the summer comes to a close.
