A report in the Daily Star has suggested that West Brom boss Tony Pulis is hoping for a transfer budget of around £40 million this summer ahead of his meeting with the club’s owners.
The Baggies spent much of the campaign acting as something of a surprise package in the Premier League, recovering from a lacklustre start to sit eighth, quite comfortably at one stage.
However, an extremely poor end to the season – they have lost five of their last six – has left the door open for the chasing pack to try and steal that eighth spot, and perhaps leave Pulis’ men vulnerable of potentially falling into the bottom-half of the table at the final hurdle.
But Pulis will be hoping that their poor run of form can be used positively as he prepares to ask for a considerable amount of funds ahead of the summer, with the Star believing that he is set to want around £40 million.

It could certainly be argued that their ageing squad and lack of depth in certain areas – they have just two strikers within their squad – has been a key reason for their inability to keep well ahead of their rivals.
And he will be hoping that the owners agree with him that it is only with significant investment in the coming months that West Brom can build upon the promise that they shown at times this term.
