According to The Times, Liverpool want Adam Lallana to stay at the club until the end of the season.
Lallana is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the month, and the Reds want the midfielder to sign a short-term extension to stay at the club until the campaign ends, according to the report.
However, according to the report, although manager Jurgen Klopp wants the 32-year-old to stay at Anfield until the season ends, he will field players in the final games of the campaign who have a long-term future, with the Reds just two matches away from winning the Premier League title.
“The 32-year-old, who is believed to have attracted the interest of Leicester City, will make himself available for every game and remains a key figure in the dressing room,” adds the report in The Times.
“Yet a feature of the candid conversations with Klopp and owners Fenway Sports Group over the past week has been coming to an understanding that those players who represent Liverpool’s long-term future will be prioritised.”
The Times have added that Brendan Rodgers’s Leicester City are interested in signing Lallana on a free transfer this summer.
Good plan?
It is great of Liverpool to reportedly consider Lallana to stay at the club in order to be celebrate the impending Premier League title success.
It is also very smart of the Reds to think of the 2020-21 campaign and field players who will be at the club next season and beyond.
Using the final remaining games to effectively use as a pre-season is a very good plan indeed.
