Sunderland have finally got shot of Jeremain Lens…but for how long?
A report from the Chronicle today suggests that Black Cats flop Jeremain Lens’ move to Besiktas has earned the Wearside outfit just £1.36 million from an initial loan fee, with no obligation for the Turkish side to buy in 12 months time.
The 29-year-old Dutchman joined Sunderland from Dynamo Kiev in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million, but quite simply proved to be nothing but trouble during his time at the Stadium of Light.
He spent last season on loan with Besiktas’ fierce rivals Fenerbahce, and the Black Cats have being trying to get him off their wage bill all throughout this summer’s transfer window.
Despite initial reports that Lens had moved to Besiktas on a permanent deal, however, the Chronicle today report that he has in fact joined the Turks on loan.
The maximum that Sunderland will earn from the deal is around £5 million, with the report stating that the Super Lig side have the option to buy the Holland international for £3.7 million at the end of this season.
Black Cats fans will be hoping that they have seen he last of Lens…although they shouldn’t bank on it.
