Glasgow Rangers are interested in bringing Ben Heneghan to Ibrox, and a report has disclosed the asking price that has been set.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is looking for a new centre-back
A report in the Daily Record has suggested that Motherwell are now expecting a bid from Rangers for defender Ben Heneghan, but are prepared to dig their heels in until they receive an offer of £500,000.
The Record reports that Pedro Caixinha is prioritising a new centre-back after telling Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos that they will be leaving Ibrox this summer, and Gers coach Jonatan Johansson watched the 23-year-old during Well’s defeat to Ross County last weekend.
Heneghan’s form has arguably been a bright point during a disappointing season at Fir Park, with Motherwell currently situated in the relegation play-off place in the Scottish Premiership.
The Englishman has one year left on his contract with Well, and the Record adds that they are now bracing themselves for a bid from Rangers, but it will have to be worth £500,000 if they hope to convince his current side into selling.
Rangers plan to release Clint Hill along with Philippe Senderos
Given Rangers’ need to bolster their options at the back, paying the six-figure fee for Heneghan may seem like a good piece of business, especially as he seems to boast plenty of potential.
Having said that, with his contract set to expire next summer and with Well in serious danger of dropping into the second tier, Caixinha may be wise to try and land the former Everton trainee for a lower price – as long as it does not jeopardise their overall chances of bagging his signature if other sides are also in the running.
