Everton reportedly have five top transfer targets this summer.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
With continued financial support from Farhad Moshiri, Everton are widely expected to splash the cash again in this summer’s transfer market, having signed the likes of Ashley Williams, Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and Yannick Bolasie over the last year.
One point in three games and no goals scored in that time have shown that, whilst Koeman has impressed in his first season in charge, he still needs further reinforcements this summer.
The Express report that Koeman has a list of five top targets he wants to bring to Goodison Park this summer, with three based in England and two on the continent.
Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, Burnley defender Michael Keane and Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson are all believed to be prime targets, as are Malaga forward Sandro and Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg.
Those are five potentially key signings for Everton, but where would they fit in at Goodison Park, and how could Koeman’s side line up if all five join the Toffees?
Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford applauds fans
Koeman has regularly gone with a 4-3-2-1 system this season, and that could still be open here. With Pickford in goal and Keane slotting into a defence alongside Mason Holgate – whilst Seamus Coleman is injured – Ashley Williams and Leighton Baines, the Toffees would be making two big upgrades.
The midfield of Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye and Tom Davies could remain, with Sandro and Sigurdsson supporting Dolberg in the final third – assuming that Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku are on their way out of the club.
Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson celebrates
Neither Sandro or Sigurdsson are particularly suited to the right hand side though, and Koeman could consider a slight switch by playing Sigurdsson in his favoured No. 10 position, and shifting Sandro up front, where he has scored 14 goals for Malaga this season, alongside Dolberg in a 4-3-1-2.
Another alternative would be for Sandro to play on the left, Sigurdsson as a No. 10, and then either use either Davies or Kevin Mirallas on the right hand side of midfield until Yannick Bolasie returns in a dangerous and well balanced 4-2-3-1.
All five targets make sense for Everton, and whilst Koeman may have to tinker in order to fit them all in, they would be real signals of intent from an ambitious Everton side, who will be looking to challenge the top four in the near future.
