Rangers are looking for a new manager after Mark Warburton’s departure.

According to The Scottish Sun, Aberdeen would demand a compensation package of £1million for manager Derek McInnes should Rangers come calling.

The Gers announced on Friday evening that manager Mark Warburton had tendered his resignation, with assistant boss David Weir and recruitment chief Frank McParland also leaving the club.

Whilst there was initially some confusion regarding whether Warburton had actually resigned or not, Rangers are certainly looking for a new manager – and a host of names have been linked with the job.

Names such as Alex McLeish, Billy Davies and Frank de Boer have all been suggested, with Rangers looking unlikely to pay compensation for a new manager right now.

Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes had been touted for the job, but The Scottish Sun now report that the Dons would demand £1million in compensation to allow McInnes to return to Ibrox.

McInnes, 45, made more than 50 appearances for Rangers in all competitions as a player, having joined the club from Morton in 1995, and has since gone on to become a manager.

After impressing in charge of St Johnstone, McInnes endured a difficult spell in England with Bristol City, but has rebuild his reputation with Aberdeen, turning the Dons into Celtic’s main title rivals in Rangers’ absence.

As a tried and tested hand in the Scottish Premiership, McInnes had been suggested as a possible replacement for Warburton, but the £1million compensation fee would surely end any interest.

It’s stated that Aberdeen have McInnes locked down under contract until 2019, and whilst he harbours ambitions of returning for another crack at English football, a move back to Ibrox now looks unlikely.
