Rangers are expected to appoint Pedro Caixinha imminently.
General view outside Ibrox
According to the Daily Mail, Rangers have agreed to pay £300,000 for new manager Pedro Caixinha – and he will pen a deal until the summer of 2020.
The Gers look set to bring a month-long search for a new manager to an end, as Caixinha is allegedly poised to unveiled as their boss in the next 24 hours.
Rangers saw former manager Mark Warburton leave the club last month, and whilst a host of names have been linked with moves to Ibrox, it seems that the Gers are taking a left-field approach.
Caixinha, 46, is far from a household name and is in fact something of an unknown for many fans, but he’s the man chosen to take the job at Ibrox.
The Daily Mail report that Rangers have shown two major votes of confidence in Caixinha, first by paying at £300,000 compensation fee to buy him out of his Al-Gharafa contract, and secondly by handing him a three-and-a-half year contract.
Caixinha will pen a deal until 2020, meaning Rangers are seemingly viewing the Portuguese manager as a long-term appointment, handing him the keys to the Ibrox club as they look to close the gap to Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Pedro Caixinha
A former assistant to compatriot Jose Peseiro all around the world, Caixinha has managed Uniao Leiria and Nacional in his native Portugal, whilst he also enjoyed a spell in Mexico with Santos Laguna.
Caixina has most recently been managing Al-Gharafa, but with the Qatari club allowing him to leave on Thursday, he should now be confirmed as the new Rangers boss today, enabling him to sit in the stands for Sunday’s Old Firm derby with Celtic.
