The Al-Gharafa boss has emerged as a serious contender to replace Mark Warburton at Rangers, almost three weeks on from the Englishman’s Ibrox departure.
Pedro Caixinha
Glasgow Rangers could save £660,000 by waiting until the summer to appoint Pedro Caixinha, according to the Daily Record.
The little-known Portuguese coach has emerged as a serious contender to replace Mark Warburton at Ibrox, alongside ex-Rangers boss Alex McLeish, Alex Neil of Norwich City and Gary Rowett.
But with four months left on his £2-million-a-year contract, Caixinha’s Qatari employers would likely request the remainder of his deal be paid up before granting his release.
And while it could be in Rangers’ best interests to wait until the summer, their chance may have been and gone by then, with the Daily Record reporting that Caixinha is in line for a renewal in Doha.
The 46-year-old might not be the only Ibrox contender who could be off limits financially, after it was suggested by BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton on Tuesday that Neil is unlikely to leave Norwich due to the huge pay-off required to free the Scot from his Canaries contract.
Alex Neil
“There’s was always this lingering thing in the background with Alex Neil abut his huge pay-off and whether that kept him in a job. I would be shocked if he ended up at Rangers,” Sutton said.
Rangers would have no such trouble with either McLeish or Rowett, however, with the pair leaving Zamalek and Birmingham City respectively in 2016.
