Celtic have reportedly placed RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper at the top of their January wishlist.

Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers celebrates during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic will have to part with just £1 million if they want to land Brendan Rodgers’ number one target for the January transfer window Marvin Compper.

The Daily Record reports Rodgers is determined to bolster his options at the heart of the defence, and Compper is the player that he has put at the top of his shopping list for next month.

The Record adds that that is partially down to the fact that the 32-year-old will be available for just £1 million in January having struggled for game-time with the Bundesliga side this season.

Compper – who has one cap for Germany to his name, which came back in 2008 – joined RB Leipzig in 2014 and helped the side achieve promotion to the top flight before playing a fairly key role in their stunning first campaign at the highest level, where they finished second to secure a spot in the Champions League.

His appearance in Europe’s top competition this term means that he would not be able to play for the Hoops when they take on Zenit in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

But with Compper available for such a low fee, his arrival would still be a brilliant piece of business from the Scottish Premiership side as he would help bring some of the reliability that some of Celtic’s current options have struggled with in recent times.

Celtic face Hamilton on Wednesday hoping to extend their advantage at the top of the table to eight points over the likes of Rangers and Aberdeen.
