According to The Mirror, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez wants to spend £100million on seven new signings this summer having won promotion to the Premier League.

The Spaniard watched on as his Magpies side beat Preston North End 4-1 at St. James’ Park on Monday evening, clinching promotion to the Premier League in the process.

A year after being relegated to the Championship, Newcastle are back in the Premier League again, and it’s imperative that the Magpies strengthen with new signings to challenge in the top flight once more.

Owner Mike Ashley backed manager Benitez in the transfer market last summer, and The Mirror report that he’ll have to do it again, as the Newcastle boss wants a whopping £100million to spend on new signings.

It’s claimed that Benitez wants to bring seven players to boost his Newcastle squad – a considerable influx of players, yet considerably short of the 12 signings Benitez made last summer.

Benitez is also believed to want full control over incomings, making him totally accountable for the side’s performance in the Premier League, whereas Graham Carr was in charge of transfers when Steve McClaren managed the club in the 2015/16 campaign.

The report notes that Benitez wants to boost all areas of his teams except goalkeeper, with a new playmaker and another striker believed to be high on his wish list.

In fact, Benitez is allegedly prepared to dismantle parts of the squad he built for the Championship in order to fund moves for other players, with such demands believed to be key to Benitez committing his future to the Magpies.
