Everton are reportedly looking to the Championship for a new striker.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton are now planning to look for Championship options as they look to bring a new striker to the club this summer.
The Toffees have enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, as Ronald Koeman has been able to add Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney to his squad at Goodison Park.
Pickford should be Everton’s first-choice goalkeeper for years to come, Keane will solidify the Everton defence, whilst Klaassen, Sigurdsson, Sandro and Rooney should provide creativity in the final third.
However, having sold star striker Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in a big-money deal earlier this summer, many still feel that Everton are lacking a true number nine to lead the attack – and Koeman appears to agree with that notion.
The Daily Mail report that Everton are casting their net far and wide in their search of a new striker, and are now even considering moving for Championships strikers in a bid to boost Koeman’s options.
Few Championship strikers could truly replace Lukaku, but there may well be some gems in the second tier who can offer legitimate firepower to Koeman’s squad.
Cardiff City’s Kenneth Zohore fits the bill as a physical centre forward, and the 23-year-old Dane not only score 12 league goals last season, but has impressed in the early stages of this term, attracting major interest.
Aston Villa star Jonathan Kodjia could have been ideal, but an injury setback means the Ivorian will be out of action for some time yet, meaning Everton would have to take a major gamble on him if they view him as a possible target.
Lasse Vibe of Brentford or Nelson Oliveira of Norwich City would offer other somewhat underwhelming options, but Everton appear to be keen on leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of another striker.
