Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claim that Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid have entered talks to sign Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon on loan before the summer deadline – though Fulham are said to be on pole position.
Reguilon, 25, has clocked up just 67 appearances for Tottenham since joining the club from Real Madrid in 2020. This summer, he has been one of four members in Antonio Conte’s bomb squad – not training with the senior side.
Indeed, the Spanish star has been joined by Harry Winks, Gio Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele in training alone. Ndombele has gone to Napoli – and scored on his debut – while Lo Celso has returned to Villarreal on loan again.
Reports claim that Simeone and Atletico Madrid now want to sign Reguilon on loan – and talks are underway. However, it comes after other reports suggested Fulham were leading Lazio to sign the “phenomenal” left-back.

Atletico Madrid enter talks to sign Tottenham defender Reguilon
Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon have pushed Reguilon to third-choice on the left flank. Spurs have also agreed a deal for Italian wonderkid Destiny Udogie, who has returned to Udinese on loan for the 2022-23 campaign.
So, Reguilon could be fourth choice by this time next summer. He needs to go, and he needs to show the world what he is capable of by joining a side where he is first choice. At Fulham, he will certainly get that.
Would he at Atletico Madrid? Of course, they will have Champions League football and that will be tempting for Reguilon. A return to his home country, too. But he might have to compete with the likes of Renan Lodi.
At Fulham, or maybe even Lazio, he would be first choice and get plenty of game time – albeit without the top tier of European football. So, Reguilon has a big decision to make on his future this summer.
