Crystal Palace are reportedly set to sign goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri.
According to ESPN, goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri has done enough to impress Roy Hodgson and win a short-term contract with Crystal Palace.
Cavalieri, 35, made his name with Palmeiras in his native Brazil before joining Liverpool in 2008, where he failed to make a single Premier League appearance and only played in cup competitions.
The shot-stopper moved on to Cesena and then Fluminense, making almost 200 appearances for the latter before being released in 2017, meaning he has been without a club for a couple of months.
Now, it’s claimed that Cavalieri has been training with Crystal Palace over the last week, and he has allegedly done enough to impress manager Roy Hodgson and earn a short-term contract with the Eagles until the end of the season.
Ideal short-term cover
Palace have been searching for a new goalkeeper since the turn of the year, and whilst Getafe’s Vicente Guaita is set to arrive at the end of the season, Wayne Hennessey needs cover now.
With Julian Speroni out through injury, Hennessey is lacking cover, and a free transfer for Cavalieri until the end of the season appears to be the solution.
Hodgson briefly managed Cavalieri at Liverpool in 2010 before allowing him to join Cesena in Italy, and the pair look set to reunite at Selhurst Park.
Cavalieri may be in line for his first ever Premier League appearance, but it seems that he will merely be brought in to cover for Hennessey.
