Report: Development means Mourinho target could stay; he'd asked to leave amid Tottenham links

The Tottenham Hotspur-linked head of recruitment Luis Campos could now stay at Lille, according to The Daily Record.

The newspaper claimed previously that Campos – who worked with the Tottenham manager, Jose Mourinho, at Real Madrid – had asked to be released from his contract after ‘a series of disagreements [with the French club’s director general, Marc Ingla] over the club’s summer transfer business’.

And leading clubs in England, Italy and Spain were said to have been ‘made aware of his availability’.

But it is now being reported that the Lille president, Gerard Lopez, has instead accepted Ingla’s resignation, ‘in a move that makes [Campos] much more likely to remain in post’.

Whether or not Tottenham had plans to act on the uncertainty remains unclear, although Mourinho was ‘keen to involve Campos in Spurs’ recruitment’, according to The Daily Record.

It also notes that Mourinho recommended the former Monaco man to his then Manchester United chief executive, Ed Woodward, only to be ignored.

Campos is reported to have made Lille more than €350 million (around £317m) in transfer fees since 2017, with Victor Osimhen and Gabriel Magalhaes his latest big sales.
