Get French Football News claim that Gini Wijnaldum wants to stay at Paris Saint-Germain despite interest from Arsenal and Newcastle. The midfielder has struggled to start regularly for Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG this season.
Joining PSG on a free transfer in the summer, 31-year-old Wijnaldum was expected to be a crucial part of PSG’s starting line-up. But this season, the Netherlands ace has only started 15 of his 25 league and cup appearances.
Indeed, he has only played 90 minutes on six occasions since his move from Merseyside to Paris. That has sparked rumours he could return to the Premier League, just six months after leaving Liverpool to join PSG.
GFFN say Arsenal have made an approach, while Wijnaldum himself has rejected a move to rejoin Newcastle. Now, the report states his stance on leaving PSG would deem the move a ‘failure’, and he is not ready to give in.
Arsenal, Newcastle eye Wijnaldum: PSG star makes stance known
A blow for both Arsenal and Newcastle – given the quality of the midfielder. Arsenal’s deal for Juventus midfielder Arthur is dragging on, and Mikel Arteta desperately needs additions in the middle of the park.
Newcastle, meanwhile, would surely love to have Wijnaldum back for numerous reasons. A midfielder is needed, while the Toon have gone after Premier League proven players in Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier.
Of course, Newcastle fans know Wijnaldum, too. So, given the quality of player and that both need him desperately, missing out on Premier League winner Wijnaldum is a blow as he looks set to remain in Paris.
